Steve wrote his first short story in fifth grade, and has been involved with the creative influence of words since that time. In high school, he wrote a 50 page novella, which helped him to get into a top ranked college. While an undergraduate, he wrote three plays that were produced, one of which won the Wallace B. Johnson One Act Play Competition.
Steve has brought his enjoyment of language into the community. He believes that everyone has a story to tell and an ability to express themselves. Guided by these beliefs, five years ago he started and continues to run The Topic Workshop. The Topic Workshop uses reading, writing, and conversation, allowing each participant to learn from others, discover greater self-awareness and expand his or her ability to express themselves. The course has been utilized by several non-profits in Ithaca, New York. As a Resident Artist for three years for the Hangar Theatre, a respected regional theater of Central New York, he guided at risk teens to script original plays, which were later produced and performed for the public. Steve has a B.A. and an M.A. in English. His aim is to continue to help people find the gifts and comforts that language provides.
Scott has a B.A. in Government and a Juris Doctorate (a law degree). Speaking and writing were an important part of Scott’s formal education. He studied speech in college and won prizes for public speaking. In law school, Scott was the Executive Problem Editor of the Moot Court Board. He wrote a moot court problem (a fictional legal case) about the First Amendment that was used by teams from across the nation. Scott is an attorney specializing in complex litigation. He counsels clients, avoids or resolves disputes and daily determines what to say and the best way to say it. He credits any good ideas he has to his wife, who has heard all the bad ones.
